  • Please notify us of all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Certain medications—including blood thinners, anti-inflammatories, and some diabetes medications—may need to be paused as instructed by your surgeon.
  • Inform us immediately if you develop a fever, respiratory symptoms, illness, or any new medical concerns before surgery.
  • Complete all required imaging, labs, and clearances prior to your procedure date.
  • Arrange reliable transportation, as you will not be able to drive yourself home.
  • Do not eat or drink after the cutoff time provided during your surgical scheduling call.
  • Arrive at the surgical center at the exact time provided.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Bring a list of medications, your ID, insurance information, and any required paperwork.

Post-Op Instructions

After surgery, you will receive a customized recovery plan designed to support healing and help you return to activity safely and efficiently.

  • Walking is encouraged as soon as you are cleared—it promotes circulation and speeds recovery.
  • Avoid heavy lifting, bending, twisting, or strenuous exercise until otherwise directed.
  • Follow specific mobility guidelines tailored to your procedure (microdiscectomy, laminectomy, cervical fusion, etc.).
  • Keep your incision clean and dry.
  • Do not submerge the incision in water until cleared.
  • Contact us immediately if you experience drainage, increasing redness, fever, or worsening pain.
  • Most minimally invasive procedures require very limited pain medication.
  • Use prescribed medications only as directed.
  • Ice and over-the-counter pain relievers may be recommended based on your procedure and health profile.
  • Your first postoperative visit will occur within the timeframe provided before surgery.
  • Imaging or physical therapy may be recommended based on your recovery progress. Our surgeons and care team remain available throughout your healing process to ensure a safe, smooth, and predictable recovery.
